Leadership Development

Pictured above, Marie Pleasant, Director of Pleasant House Day Care, takes on leadership as Co-Chair of Provider Committee. Childspace CDI recruited Ms. Pleasant to participate in the campaign to address subsidy payment problems.  After addressing her own issues, Ms. Pleasant took the next step to encourage others to work together to improve the situation for all child care providers.
Childspace CDI offers support for early education professionals to help develop skills and build confidence needed to effectively speak for themselves.  The child care field will only be improved when early educators take leadership in informing parents and the larger community of the importance of their work, and how crucial it is to adequately fund the education of young children and fairly compensate teachers.

Childcare Voices
Childspace CDI staff works with child care professionals to examine their own experience in the field, reflect on the lessons they've learned and what is important to share with others, and craft a story to share with peers, parents, the media, or public officials.

Stepping up, speaking out
Childspace CDI recruits child care professionals to join and lead advocacy efforts, to speak out in public forums and to recruit others to join their efforts.  Childspace CDI provides mentoring support as needed as participants take on increasing levels of leadership. Opportunities for leadership include worksite policy committees, Provider Committee leadership, Childspace CDI committees and board, and organizing specific events.
